Laminectomy

Removal of the lamina to enlarge the spinal canal and relieve pressure on the cord or cauda equina.

Used for stenosis or cord compression when decompression alone is sufficient without fusion—though fusion may be added if instability is present.

Extent of bone removal is matched to compression pattern.
